Question 1

Can I use a different cut of beef?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The recipe calls for rib-eye or flat iron steak (about 3/4 pounds) for tenderness and flavor, but other well-marbled cuts that can be sliced very thin will work. Slice across the grain and roughly chop as instructed.

Question 2

How do I reheat leftover sandwiches?

Accepted Answer

Keep leftovers wrapped in foil and reheat in a 300 degrees F oven for 8 to 12 minutes until warmed through. Avoid microwaving long enough to dry the meat and cheese.

Question 3

Can I make the filling ahead of time?

Accepted Answer

Yes — cook the onions and beef, melt the cheese, then cool and refrigerate for up to 1 day. Reheat filling in a skillet, then assemble and finish wrapped in foil in the oven to refresh the sandwich.
