Slow Cooker Bread

Slow Cooker Bread

This slow cooker bread has a tender, pillowy interior and a crisp, browned crust after a quick oven finish, with optional Parmesan adding a savory, cheesy note. It takes about 15 minutes to prep plus roughly 2 hours in the slow cooker and a 10 to 15 minute oven brown, ideal for casual meals or make-ahead baking.

Equipment

  • KitchenAid Artisan 5 Quart Stand Mixer
  • 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker
  • Aluminum Baking Sheet (2 pack)
  • parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups water lukewarm
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese grated, optional

Instructions

  1. Turn the slow cooker to High and allow it to preheat. Line the slow cooker insert with parchment paper and close the lid.
  2. In a stand mixer bowl combine the lukewarm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let the mixture rest for about 10 minutes until the yeast activates and the mixture begins to rise.
  3. Add the salt, all-purpose flour, and Parmesan cheese to the mixer. Mix with the dough hook until the dough is well incorporated and the sides of the bowl are clean.
  4. Transfer the ball of dough to a lightly floured surface and knead just a few times until smooth. Shape the dough into a ball and place it into the preheated slow cooker on the parchment; close the lid.
  5. Bake on High in the slow cooker for 120 minutes, checking occasionally.
  6. Preheat the oven to 450℉. When the slow cooker time is complete, lift the bread on the parchment onto a baking sheet and place in the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes to brown the top.

Notes

Homemade bread is not going to last as long as store bought bread! It’s going to be best to store it at room temperature in a cool dry place and in an airtight plastic bag, to last 2 -3 days.
Unfortunately placing it in the fridge will not extend the life as the bread will become stale. Also keep in mind, that heat and humidity will cause the bread to mold.
If you want to freeze your slow cooker bread, you can wrap it in plastic wrap and it will last up to 3 weeks.
