Black Forest Smoothie

A creamy, chocolate-cherry smoothie made with frozen banana, frozen pitted cherries, cocoa powder, and almond milk for a rich Black Forest flavor. Ready in about 5 minutes, it works as a quick breakfast or a dessert-style drink for one large or two small servings.

Total Time:5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 medium banana ripe, frozen
  • 1 cup almond milk unsweetened
  • 3/4 cup cherries frozen, pitted; I like these from Trader Joe's
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder I use this one
  • Pinch sea salt I've started using this one in some smoothies for its nutritional boost
  • coconut whipped cream
  • chocolate syrup drizzle
  • cherries diced

Instructions

  1. Place 1 medium ripe frozen banana, 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 3/4 cup frozen pitted cherries, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, and a pinch of sea salt into a high-speed blender.
  2. Puree the mixture on high until completely smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour the smoothie into a glass (or divide between two glasses).
  4. If desired, top with coconut whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate syrup, and diced cherries; insert a straw.
  5. To create a chocolate syrup rim, drizzle a bit of chocolate syrup onto a small plate and dip the rim of the glass into the syrup.

Notes

Frozen banana provides the creamy texture; for a thicker smoothie use less almond milk or add more frozen fruit, and for a thinner drink add more almond milk. Recipe yields 1 large or 2 small smoothies. The author prefers Trader Joe's frozen pitted cherries and a pinch of sea salt for extra balance.
